Joint Representation Demanding Accountability and Transparency in Content Restrictions in India
About the representation:
SFLC.in has seen a growing number of content takedowns, account restrictions, and significant reductions in the reach and visibility of content on social media platforms in India. These actions have affected journalists, content creators, civil society organisations and ordinary users, with concerns around automated enforcement, lack of clear reasons and notice, limited access to meaningful human review, and the significant impact that erroneous or disproportionate restrictions can have on livelihoods, journalism and public participation.
We have therefore prepared joint representations to the platforms and the Government of India, setting out our concerns and recommendations for greater transparency, safeguards and effective remedies.
