Understanding Trust and Safety in AI: From Code to Creativity

SFLC.in, Viswam.AI, FOSS United, and The Linux Foundation are jointly organising an in-person stakeholder consultation event “Understanding Trust and Safety in AI: From Code to Creativity” .

The event aims to surface practical challenges, policy trade-offs, and stakeholder perspectives, and to generate actionable inputs for responsible AI development and governance in India. The event brings together policymakers, industry leaders, open-source practitioners, creators, and civil society to examine how trust, safety, and accountability can be embedded into AI systems from the stage of design and training. The event comprises two closed-door roundtable discussions focused on critical governance questions shaping India’s AI ecosystem.

The roundtables will focus on:

  1. Harnessing Open Source AI: This session will examine the role of open-source AI in building transparent, accountable, and inclusive AI systems. With India witnessing rapid AI adoption, particularly through open-source technologies, this discussion will critically explore what “open” means in the context of AI models, data, licensing, safety, and governance.
  2. Balancing AI Innovation and Copyright: This session will deliberate on the DPIIT Working Paper on Generative AI and Copyright, including the proposed hybrid licensing model, including mandatory blanket licensing and statutory remuneration, its implications for AI developers and creators, and its impact on India’s broader AI ecosystem.
